Vietnam Holidays
It would be a mistake to visit Vietnam without going to Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon) in the south of the country, where there is a wonderful contrast between Chinese shop houses and colonial architecture, in a bustling and vibrant atmosphere. Hanoi is situated in the north and is now Vietnam’s capital. Hanoi has an exquisite French quarter and tree-lined boulevards which suggests a glamorous Parisian avenue rather than a South East Asian city scene.
The weather can differ greatly depending on the time of year it is typically hot and humid in the summer and cool and dry in the winter. The North is generally the coldest region in Vietnam. Between November and February the temperature can be as low as 5 degrees Celsius in Hanoi, with the surrounding highlands of Sapa reaching even lower temperatures. The weather begins to improve in March with spring appearing rapidly in the North, which starts to become hotter and wetter in early July. Late July to September are the months where the humidity eventually builds to trigger typhoons and torrential rain in the region. The rainy season slowly moves from the North into Central Vietnam from October and finishing in early January.
The South of Vietnam has a weather pattern typical to the majority of tropical countries having summer from November through to April, whilst May and June are incredibly humid and more prone to thunder storms and intermittent rainfall, which is often welcome in the 40+ degrees Celsius. The infamous typhoons tend to start in July and eventually become less persistent usually begin in July and last until the end of September.
Now easily accessed, Vietnam is an entiicing holiday hideaway. You are sure to be overawed by incredible food, friendly natives, exceptional varied accommodation and above all, the utter range of backdrops, activities and places in this enthralling country.
