Looking for somewhere to go for your second honeymoon? Or perhaps you just want a destination brimming over with romance, luxury, and elegance? The Cook Islands are the perfect place for a holiday full of picture perfect moments to last in your memory for a lifetime.

The Cook Islands don’t have a massive amount of tourism, so your romantic holiday is sure to be a private one. If you agree that nothing is more annoying than a beach full of people, you’ll rejoice in the laid back and quiet atmosphere of these beautiful islands. Of the fifteen islands, only two have the capabilities to support tourists. These are Rarotonga and Aitutaki, two islands completely varied in their geography but both romantic destinations in their own right.

Aitutaki is the more stereotypical of the two islands. A true paradise island, Aitutaki is a wonderful representation of the best that the South Pacific has to offer with blue, jewel-like waters and sunny white beaches. The fifteen small islets and the main volcanic island are ringed by a barrier reef, meaning that Aitutaki has one of the largest lagoons in the world. Beach sports are the order of the day here where everyone is eager to surf and dive the day away. Your whole world is your resort, so make sure you pick the best of them all. With choices like the Pacific Resort Aitutaki, you won’t have any trouble doing that.

Rarotonga offers rugged island scenery at its best. Though it’s the largest of the Cook Islands, it still only twenty miles in circumference, giving it a surprisingly intimate feel. When you travel here, this is where you’ll be landing, as it is the home of the international airport and the largest city, Avarua.

Rarotonga’s landscape is dominated by towering volcanoes and lush rainforest, sloping down to sandy beaches and tall palm trees. There is plenty to explore; a four wheel drive safari is recommended to explore in and around the dense rainforest, unless you’d prefer horseback. Enjoy a brief stop off for a refreshing swim under one of the island’s many sparkling waterfalls.

There are almost too many luxury resorts to choose from on Rarotonga, all promising elegance and comfort throughout your holiday. It’s all down to your personal preference; if you’d like style and elegance, you might choose the Little Polynesian, recently redecorated to capture the perfect island feel.

If you’re after absolute privacy and your own pool, Sea Change, tucked away on the south coast, is the perfect choice. The resort has just eight villas; each has its own freshwater pool, shower designed especially for two and a kingsize four poster bed. For those looking to include a little romance in their holiday, this resort is truly the perfect choice. Plus, you can cater for yourself or dine in one of Rarotonga’s delicious restaurants; your holiday will be defined by you and only you.

The Cook Islands are one of the world’s most luxurious holiday destinations. Consider booking your holiday today.

If you love the vibrant city life, Hong Kong is the luxury holiday destination for you. The island city is all about style and changing culture, with plenty of hidden nooks and crannies to explore, a high street to rival New York City, and is brimming with history and culture.

Hong Kong was formerly a fishing village on the island where Chinese emperors sent the officials they chose to punish. After the opium wars, Hong Kong was ceded to Britain, leading to a century of relative prosperity. Wealthy Europeans moved in but kept totally separate from local Chinese people, only hiring them for service. During World War II, Hong Kong was seized by Japanese forces, who treated the local population terribly. When Japan surrendered in 1945, Britain once again took control and restored Hong Kong’s economy and infrastructure. Hong Kong was only returned to China in 1984. The city celebrates its heritage with a variety of museums including the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, and the Hong Kong Science Museum. There are also plenty of listed buildings to explore if history is your favourite subject.

At present, Hong Kong is a bustling international city full of modern skyscrapers but with little back alleys still playing host to traditional Chinese shops and restaurants. Due to its unique heritage, Hong Kong often calls itself “East Meets West” and provides British culture that you’ll be familiar with right alongside its own longer standing Chinese heritage. Builders in Hong Kong still hire Feng Shui consultants before laying out rooms and tall buildings often leave out the fourth floor because the sound of four in Cantonese is too similar to the word for “die”. Yet Hong Kong also has a thriving entertainment and cinema business with its own TV broadcasters and film stars. It’s a curious dichotomy that will lend extraordinary flavour to your luxury holiday.

That isn’t even to mention the shopping available on Hong Kong. The city is recognised as a true shopper’s paradise with Central and Causeway Bay having an extraordinary range of malls, department stores, and specialist Hong Kong and international designers. While you’re shopping, you might take a break to eat at one of the city’s world class restaurants. And if the nightlife is your thing, prepare to be busy because Hong Kong has an incredibly vibrant and active social scene.

Hong Kong’s hotels are similarly world class. If glamour is your aim, you might choose to stay at the Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong. This hotel has been in operation since 1963 and is the flagship location for this luxury hotel chain. Even though it has been open for almost fifty years, the hotel has undergone a recent redesign and now offers the ultimate in twenty-first century luxury. Each room boasts an iPod docking station, high speed wireless internet, a DVD player, and a flat screen television, all supported by an “IT butler”. With ten restaurants and bars, a Michelin star among them, you won’t be at a loss for great dinner selections, and the spa will provide all the relaxation you could ever want.

Hong Kong is a luxury holiday destination that is perfect year-round with a hot and humid climate. Those who would like to avoid rain may want to avoid the island between June and September, but since you’ll be spending most of your time indoors, it shouldn’t be a problem. Just make sure your activities are comfortably air conditioned.

These days more than ever before, the world is our oyster. But it can feel a little overwhelming to be faced with a choice of holiday destinations, each of them more enticing than the next. That’s why it’s important to put yourself in the hands of those that understand luxury travel inside out. If you’re after incomparable service and attention to detail, look to Turquoise Holidays, who specializes in bespoke luxury holidays for the contemporary traveller. Turquoise Holidays have a collection of the finest hand-picked hotels in the most desirable destinations. A small team, with over 120 years of collective travel experience and a lust for travel, will take the time to create your dream trip.

If you’re in search of barefoot luxury in the Indian Ocean, you won’t be disappointed – you’ll find picture postcard islands and clear waters, white powdery beaches, delicious cuisine and first-class service in the Seychelles or Maldives. Or discover the melting pot of cultures and contrasting landscapes of Mauritius, with its staggeringly beautiful turquoise lagoons and green plateaux. If you crave a taste of Arabia in the Middle East, you can explore the desert by jeep or take in the futuristic skyscrapers and opulent hotels of Dubai and Qatar. Or you may want a chilled out Caribbean sojourn, a safari in Southern Africa, or find yourself drawn to the history and culture of Asia, from Thailand’s coolest cities, to romantic Vietnam via the sun-drenched retreats in the Maldives.

Wherever you finally plump for, you can be sure of one thing – Turquoise Holidays’ personalised itinerary will complement your particular needs and you will never look back. And to help newlyweds start as they mean to carry on, Turquoise Holidays is offering a refreshing alternative to the traditional wedding gift list. Forget common or garden presents that get relegated to the back of the cupboard and arrange for your guests to contribute towards your dream honeymoon instead.

If it really is the Indian Ocean or bust, you may find yourself residing in one of Naïade Resorts’ eight hotels in this idyllic corner of the world. Desroches Island Resort in the Seychelles is a private, eco friendly paradise – if it’s good enough for Prince William and Kate Middleton, its good enough for us. In fact, what with its magnificent coconut grove, its unique flora and fauna, perfect beaches and crystal-clear lagoon, it’s almost too good to be true.

Desroches Island Resort’s hospitality is unrivalled, its cuisine renowned. And just a 40-minute flight away is Mahé, the capital island, which is surrounded by 14 km of white, sandy beaches and has some of the most beautiful underwater dive sites in the Seychelles. Paradise on earth.

In need of some harmony in your life? Legends in Mauritius is Naïade Resorts’ Feng Shui design hotel (the only of its kind in the Indian Ocean), which stretches out along the sandy beach of the north coast. Promising Zen relaxation based on harmony and well-being, there can be no more luxurious way to rebalance your chakras and refresh body and soul.

Still in Mauritius, Four Seasons is an all-suite hotel with impeccable service located on a superb beach at Anahita in the east of the island. The majestic, never-ending lobby has a large pool with turquoise mosaics opening on to the crystal-clear swimming pool and aquamarine lagoon. Or stay in one of the brand new colonial-style villas with a four-poster bed, 24-hour butler service and your own personal chef to spoil you rotten. And finally, one to look forward to – Diva Island Resort & Spa, a deluxe five-star property in Maldives which Naïade Resorts is proud to be opening in March 2008. One for the diary, surely.

Located in the warm Indian Ocean, Maldives is a cluster of tiny islands, 26 to be exact, home to a wonderful blend of exotic cultures and traditions. As a testament to the culture, the word Maldives means “Mountainous Islands” in the exotic local language of Tamil, still spoken by many local natives. Because of the mountainous topography, only the small low lying inlets are inhabited. It is on these small quiet inlets that breathtaking ocean views, white sand beaches and lush palm trees are available for all who come to enjoy luxurious Maldives holidays.

Hotels in Maldives

A typical journey to the Maldives is centered around a beautiful resort hotel. In most cases, an island will contain only one resort, adding to the privacy and the experience. The inhabitants of the island are only the support staff necessary to make the vacation as relaxing as possible, there are no natives. If a cultural trip, filled with history and anthropology is desired, many resorts offer shuttles to other islands. There, it is possible to get a glimpse into the lives of Maldives natives. Many of the natives still fish using ocean kayaks and rudimentary nets. For the people who inhabit these islands, their families have lived here for generations, unchanged by time and untouched by western civilization. Maldives vacations can be eye opening windows into the past.

If experiencing nature is the goal, there are many opportunities located directly on the resort island. Using the resort as a base of operations, holiday visitors to the Maldives will have the freedom to explore the island in any way they choose. On land, mountain biking or hiking in the mountains is a common pastime and the best way to get up close to the local wildlife, including birds of paradise. Many resorts and hotels in Maldives have their own aquatic facilities; some have world-class dive centers.

In the ocean, many visitors try parasailing or boating. Boating provides a unique opportunity to see different islands in the Maldives or possibly catch some of the deep sea fish that lurk nearby. In the ocean, SCUBA diving and snorkeling in the clear warm water surrounding each island is stunning. Each island is like a natural aquarium: surrounded by pristine coral reefs filled with thousands of colorful fish.

For some, high adventure excursions, like hiking, biking and SCUBA, are too stressful. For these visitors, each resort offers white sand beaches and swimming in the warm calm waters of the Indian Ocean. The shallow reef surrounding each island serves as a break wall for any waves or currents that might be present in the open ocean. Additionally, the resorts offer amenities like souvenir shops, restaurants and bars. Often it is possible to play sports, like tennis and beach volleyball right on the island, all the while enjoying the beautiful scenery and warm weather.

Maldives holidays are truly a once in a lifetime experience: no other place on earth offers a feeling of serenity so intense. Nearly anything is possible on each private resort island. The goal of the Maldives Islands is to mix the beauty of nature with the fun and relaxation of a true resort vacation.
