The only way to fly- luxury first class airline seats

Of course when we think about luxury holidays we immediately imagine far flung hotspots, lavish hotels and unspoiled seclusion. When it comes to an exclusive escape though, the experience really begins before you even arrive at your destination. The apprehension that some people express about flying, particularly on long haul services is often manifest of an unpleasant or dissatisfying previous encounter. Today when we speak to friends or family during or after their holiday it almost comes as a surprise if, rather than when, they inform us that the flight was ‘ok’ or ‘not too bad’. Feeling part of a corporate system of minimum space, maximum output is however not part of our luxury ideal. Being crammed into a row of rigid seats with little leg room (especially if you are over 6 feet tall) and few amenities to entertain or comfort you has too readily become a staple of air travel. I appreciate that when it comes to flying you certainly get what you pay for and there are countless circumstances when a budget flight is more than suitable; at luxuryholidayideas though we like to explore the more magnificent aspects of world travel and that is why in this post I have taken a closer look at some of the most luxurious commercial airline seats available internationally

Singapore Airlines- First Class suites: Actually more of a cabin than a seat these exclusive suites offer the world’s largest airline seats at over 35 inches across and are hand stitched in Italian leather. Also featuring a standalone bed; rather than one converted from a chair, chaise long, large dining table bed linen designed by Givenchy and a range of exclusive Ferragamo toiletries passengers are promised a relaxed and comfortable experience. Also included is a complimentary turndown service, multimedia centre, pyjamas and fine dining menu created by some of the finest chefs in the world. The suites are a feature of the Singapore Airlines A380 service which offers international flights from a number of destinations.

Cathay Pacific First Class Suites- Perhaps structured in a more traditional lay out although the Cathay suites are not completely enclosed like those on Singapore Airlines they still offerCathay Pacific complete privacy and ample space. Featuring a reclining seat that transforms into an 81” bed, a second cushioned ottoman seat so that a friend or fellow passenger can sit and discuss business or simply chat, large wardrobe to keep clothes neatly stored, 17” widescreen LCD TV and noise cancelling headphones the Cathay experience is about ensuring a pleasant and relaxed journey. Award winning food and an extensive wine list offer fine dining at 30,000 ft and an interactive multimedia system will keep you entertained throughout your trip.

Diamond SuiteEtihad Airways- Diamond First Class Suite- Similar to the Singapore Airline suites with sliding doors to ensure complete privacy, Etihad is regarded as one of the world’s leading airlines. With a fully reclining and extra wide flatbed seat you are promised a sound sleep no matter where you are head to. The suite offers enough space for to people to comfortable sit and converse as well as dine together with the large fold away solid wood dining table. Choose between the a la carte or a ‘Kitchen anytime’ menu specifically designed by a group of award winning chefs. The large TV Screen is equipped with a multimedia centre offering over 600 hours of movies, TV shows, music and interactive games. Luxurious rest rooms also offer full length mirrors, quality finishes and range of complimentary care products.

Also of particular note are Qatar and Emirates Airways which both offer five star luxury and quality service aboard their flights.

Obviously for some people the price of paying for a first class seat or simply your own personal preferences (US talk show host Jay Leno frequently flies economy), lead them to prefer economy class. If you do decide to travel in economy then look out for airlines such as Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines, Air New Zealand, Emirates and Cathay Pacific who all offer a good service.
