Mozambique: The Luxury Holiday Jewel in Africa’s Crown

If you’ve ever considered a luxury holiday in Africa, or even if you haven’t, Mozambique may be the choice for you.  This gorgeous country is a meld of a variety of different cultures.  Portuguese, North African, and Arab traders and colonists have all left their mark on native culture and their influences are spread widely across the land.

Mozambique’s stunning display of nature is its biggest selling point.  Its pristine coral reefs and untouched coastline will seduce anyone with an interest in swimming, scuba diving, or snorkelling.  There is a whole world to explore under the ocean.  You could also swim with dolphins or go on a sunset cruise for the most beautiful photo opportunities you’ll ever come across.  If you enjoy fishing at home, how much more will you enjoy it in Mozambique?  This is especially so if you’ve never tried deep sea fishing before – even the least avid fisherman or woman will find themselves captivated.

Mozambique is appropriately famous for its beach holidays, though, and that’s solely down to the gorgeous climate.  Soft sandy beaches are fringed with swaying palm trees and surrounded by the warm, clear Indian Ocean.  You’ll be surprised at how different the country is from the stereotypical image of Africa that you’ve always had in your head.

If you’re interested in Mozambique’s colonial culture, head to the capital, Maputo, for some stunning architecture and fantastic seafood.  For a great place to explore, you might want to visit Ibo island, which is located on the Quirimbas Archipelago.  This crumbling trade post is a great insight into extinct colonial culture and has a fascinating and at times horrifying history of slavery, piracy, and trade.  Take a guided tour around the island to experience all its highlights or purchase a guide book and set out on your own.

Mozambique also has a varied range of resorts, many of them beach villas, so you’ll have all the opportunity you could want to relax in luxury.  There are a variety of options.  One of my favourite choices would be Azura, Mozambique’s first eco resort.  Azura’s aims consist of privacy and pampering, two of your essentials for a truly luxurious holiday (and honeymoon, if you’re thinking about where to go for one of those).  Each villa is designed separately but all are private and gorgeous.  Each villa has either a plunge pool or an affinity pool, with king beds, panoramic views, a sundeck, and a butler as standard.  If you stay at Azura, all of your meals will be provided and prepared by a top chef dedicated to delicious seafood.  But you don’t have to eat anywhere specific – all of your meals can be outdoors by candlelight or in your dining room.

Azura also has easy access to the beach, boasting both a Watersports Centre and a Dive Centre.  You’ll take Land Rover excursions and sail with dolphins.  When you get tired of the big outdoors, you can always head inside and enjoy a relaxing massage in Azura’s spa.

Even if Azura isn’t to your taste, Mozambique is still a fantastic luxury holiday destination.  Take the opportunity to start planning your holiday today.
